Sarah's Multifaceted Mamtor

The Mamtor was designed to be a fast and versatile All-Road bike that would be happy plugging away at the miles on-road, but also capable in the dirt when the road turns less civilised. So when I get a chance to showcase the Mamtor’s on/off road manners in one build it’s always an exciting build.

To get the most out of the Mamtor’s dual characteristics we specced two sets of wheels, one a sleek lightweight set of road wheels laced up 28mm Continental GP5000 tyres for a fast and plush ride. These tyres roll so well they are ideal for fast and long road jaunts. For the gravel hoops we opted for a set of 650b wheels shoed with Continental’s TerraTrail tyres. Conti has a long history of making excellent MTB tyres so we were eager to use a set of their new gravel treads. We plumbed for the 42mm width as although a the more common 47mm can fit in the Columbus Futura Gravel Forks, we wanted a shade more clearance. The difference in handling between the two sets of wheels will be minimal too, giving us a bike that rides the same no matter which wheels Sarah runs.

The keen eyed may have spotted the 155mm crank arms from Rotor, one of the only brands out there making cranks shorter than 165mm. It’s rare that we need to drop below the standard lengths but when the fit requires it’s important to make sure that we do that. Luckily Rotor modular system meant we could spec a set of 155mm cranks with a power meter, a set of AXS specific 48/35 chainrings, and even a wide axle to keep our chainline in check with the SRAM AXS Wide gearing. Custom builds like this are great, but they are particularly important to those of us who don’t fit in the standard sizing of big name manufacturers. It’s very satisfying to be able to build for those who sit on the edges of these scales.

One of my favourite builds to come out of the workshop, hope you all like it!
