It only took a quick conversation with Oli to know what he wanted from a bike. As a photographer, he knows what he likes. He notices things.

There wasn’t a long list of requirements or a complicated brief; something a bit more race-inspired and something a bit more comfortable. Mostly London-based riding but with the occasional journey into Sussex. His approach was built on instinct and sensation rather than a spec sheet.

Oli Hooson standing in front of Knees Up shop with his Quirk Cycles Durmitor in Azzurro Hyperion.

Meeting Oli it only takes a moment to feel infected by his passion for bringing people together. Through his cafe & sportswear store, Knees Up, he has built a cornerstone of the East London running and riding scene. Being a moment’s ride from the Quirk workshop, the connection felt natural.

We wanted to create a bike for Oli that was distinctly true to his East London roots. A bike made in Hackney and made for how Oli rides. To do this, it is about understanding the rider well enough to know what can be left out. A process of redaction rather than supplement. The result? A Durimitor finished in Azzurro Hyperion.

Important details for Oli was the inclusion of a colour-matched one piece bar and stem and naturally a Shimano Dura-Ace groupset with 9370 C50 wheels to finish its road presence.

Oli’s bike is now ready for the inevitable: Richmond and Regents laps, London to Brighton, escapades into the Essex Lanes and ticking off Surrey climbs. We're looking forward to seeing where he takes it.
